Abstract:

UN Security Council Resolution 1325 calls for greater full and active participation of women at all levels of decision-making, but also on the role that women can play in peacekeeping, as well as the protection of their rights and needs during and after conflicts. The National Action Plan (NAP) for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and Security", prepared by the Office of the Commissioner for Gender Equality, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in coordination with other relevant Ministries, is a tool to implement this resolution at national level, thus relating to the sphere of women's participation in social power. It consists of four pillars: Participation and Empowerment, Protection, Prevention and Promotion/Information for the Resolution. Its main objective is to identify the disproportionate and unprecedented consequences of armed conflict on women and the utilization of women's experiences in conflict prevention and resolution, as well as in the preservation of peace. Through the NAP, a horizontal policy is defined that creates the appropriate synergies between the agencies involved and aims to further strengthen cooperation to fill an existing gap and offer substantial protection to girls and women. It involves the development of a comprehensive strategy, outlining specific actions and measures to be taken by government, civil society, and other stakeholders to promote women's participation and rights in conflict and post-conflict contexts. The NAP also serves as a monitoring and evaluation tool, allowing progress to be tracked over time and ensuring accountability for implementation.
