  • Abstract:

Ita Airways started the "Corsi Comando" (Command Courses), training courses addressed to anyone who is interested and passionate about becoming an aircraft captain, one of the highest profiles in an aviation company. Each Ita Airways Course is divided into several phases: classroom training, flight simulations in the company's training centre, and short-destination flights. Recruitment is very rigid. Considering skill forecasts and rising trends in the near future when more flights will be activated, there is a need to increase permanent staff also in high-level positions, such as Flight Captain. Accordingly, Ita Airways promoted training and recruitment in high positions for men and women. Antonella Celletti and Debora Rossi are two of the most recent examples of women who reached the Captain position in the company. To promote female leadership within the company, ITA Airways supports the IATA Campaign "25by2025", a global initiative to change the gender balance in the aviation industry, which sets the target of increasing the number of women in apical positions and under-represented areas by 25% or a minimum of 25% by 2025.
