  • Abstract:

On May 9th and 10th, 2014, the "Women's Leadership Summit" took place in Vienna with the focus on "Empowering Women for Leadership", which was organized by the Austrian Paralympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Sport, the European Paralympic Committee and Sport Wien . Over 80 participants from 27 countries attended the conference. In terms of content, the focuses were on the promotion of women in leading positions in sport, the situation of female coaches and female athletes. As a basis, Rosa Diketmüller, assistant professor at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Vienna, presented some facts and figures on the status quo: Especially in the youth age group, women are less active in sports than men. Women are more likely to be active in sports at home, the more organized the exercise is (e.g. sports club), the fewer women (compared to men) take part. (Data from Eurobarometer 2013). TheSydney score boardprovides statistics on the proportion of women on the boards of national sports organizations. In her contribution to the "hidden mechanisms", Maria Rauch-Kallat presented three recommendations in particular: 1. women should not underestimate themselves 2. make decisions at the right time and 3. act tactically and flexibly. The following panel discussion also focused on: Confidence (self-confidence) - Competence - Courage - Commitment - Constant awareness. In three working groups, the participants of the conference were able to exchange experiences and brainstorm proposals to increase the number of women in the areas of "Leadership & Administration", "Coaching, Consulting & Classification" and "Athletes & Participation".
