Abstract:
In 2021, the Ambrosetti Club launched and coordinated a dedicated Business Advisory Board with a mission to drive forward women's empowerment and gender equality in decision-making at both national and international levels. This initiative was specifically aimed at formulating in-depth analyses, key policy proposals, and actionable recommendations to support the Italian Presidency's G20 Agenda, with a focus on gender equality as a central pillar for sustainable development. The Business Advisory Board collaborated closely with former Italian Minister for Equal Opportunities and Family, Elena Bonetti, to ensure that the policy initiatives and recommendations aligned with Italy’s broader strategic goals for gender equality. Through a series of expert consultations, the Advisory Board developed a comprehensive strategic position paper that outlined key areas where gender equality and women's empowerment could be accelerated, particularly in leadership and economic participation. Additionally, a Manifesto was crafted to highlight critical commitments and concrete actions necessary to drive long-term, systemic change. The culmination of these efforts was presented at the G20 Conference in Santa Margherita Ligure, held on August 26th, 2021. The strategic position paper and the Manifesto were key contributions to the discussions, offering a framework for gender-inclusive policies that could be adopted across G20 countries. These documents emphasized the importance of removing structural barriers to women's participation in leadership roles, promoting equal opportunities in education and employment, and fostering a more inclusive economy that values diverse perspectives in decision-making. This initiative by the Ambrosetti Club underscores the importance of public-private collaboration in advancing gender equality on a global scale. By engaging business leaders, policymakers, and government representatives, the Business Advisory Board helped ensure that gender equality remained a top priority in the G20 Agenda, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth for all.
