Abstract:
The 1-year Cross Mentoring Programme, organized by Talent naar de Top, brings together 150 pairs of mentees and mentors from over 50 companies, focusing on enhancing gender and cultural diversity in leadership. Participants are matched based on their profiles and personal development goals, allowing mentees to gain valuable guidance from experienced professionals outside of their own organizations. The program is designed to foster both the professional development of mentees and the mentoring and inclusive leadership skills of mentors, responding to a growing demand from companies for expertise in diversity. Since 2018, cultural diversity has been fully integrated into the Cross Mentoring Programme, broadening its focus to include participants from diverse backgrounds and addressing the unique challenges faced by underrepresented groups in the workplace. This inclusion strengthens the programme’s commitment to creating more equitable and inclusive workplaces. The programme begins with a plenary kick-off meeting, setting the stage for the year-long mentoring journey. Participants typically engage in 4 to 6 structured mentoring conversations, where they receive practical guidance and personalized feedback on their development. Mentees and mentors are provided with clear guiding principles, tips, and best practices to help them maximize the benefits of the mentoring relationship. Additionally, participants attend preparatory workshops to ensure meaningful and productive discussions. Throughout the year, the programme offers group meetings that feature inspiring workshops, intervision sessions for peer learning, and networking events for mentees. These group interactions provide participants with the opportunity to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and build professional networks, further enhancing the learning experience. The programme culminates in a final group meeting, where participants reflect on their journey, celebrate their achievements, and receive further inspiration for continued personal and professional growth. The event also includes the presentation of the Most Remarkable Mentor Prize, awarded to the mentor who has made an exceptional impact on their mentee and exemplified outstanding mentorship throughout the programme. By combining structured mentoring with a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion, the Cross Mentoring Programme equips both mentees and mentors with the skills, insights, and connections needed to drive gender and cultural diversity in leadership positions, making it a powerful tool for building more inclusive workplaces.
