Abstract:
What can be done to improve female representation in politics? First, it is needeed inspiring role models who lead the way and make room for other women to join them. Second, it has to be considered that it is hard sometimes for a woman to juggle all the different responsibilities that come along with being a woman in politics. Woman are sometimes underestimated. They have to work harder to prove themselves, but considering that knowledge is power, especially in politics, women are more inclined to focus on the substance of policies and improve the policy making process thanks to that. Slowly, but steadily it could be seen an improvement in the female representation in politics in the Netherlands. The paper makes a synthetic picture of the situation in the Netherlands on women in politics trying to refer to potential causes that hinder their access.
