Abstract:
The online hackathon “Women. Technology. Sustainability.” gathered over 200 participants from around the world! This event took place on the year of 2021. The goal of the hackathon was to encourage participants to try their hand at creating and managing tech-related projects. Especially the participants that had never done that before. The hackathon gathered over 200 participants from more than 20 countries and had 43 mentors helping teams develop their ideas during the 48h long event. “We were pleased to see that a significant number of participants took part in the event, for whom this hackathon was the very first experience of its kind. The aim was to encourage them and stimulate their interest and we believe we were able to succeed at that. It’s great to see the powerful ideas and prototypes that the teams were able to develop in just two days!” Marina Petrakova, representative of “Riga TechGirls” commented on the hackathon. The hackathon “Women. Technology. Sustainability.” was organized by “Riga TechGirls” and Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA). Riga TechGirls is the first organization in Latvia devoted to helping girls and women learn the basics of computer programming and develop digital literacy skills that are valued in the information age.
