Abstract:
The representation between males and females in senior leadership positions within the employment sector in Malta presents a challenging opportunity to critically analyse the employment rate of women who are striving to improve their status by aiming towards high managerial and executive board positions. By utilising mixed methodology, this study aims to project different perspectives by analysing real-life scenarios portrayed by women employed in senior leadership positions, as well as those of other females who are aspiring for similar roles. The main objectives of this research are to identify how underlying work-life- family issues and cultural backgrounds may influence the progress of females towards obtaining high-ranking leadership roles, and to propose strategies and initiatives to encourage more women to advance to more senior and executive positions within private entities in Malta.
