  • Abstract:

The aim of the study is to present both the current situation in Austria and the development since 2012 – also in an international comparison (Chapter 2). The main focus of the study is on the literature-based presentation of how women in management positions can affect the performance of companies (Chapter 3), not only in terms of financial success (Chapter 3.1.1), but also aspects of ecological and social sustainability (Chapter 3.1.2) and employee satisfaction and equal opportunities (Chapter 3.1.3). The study draws on extensive international data sources and publications, prepares their relevant content and brings them together in a logically structured way. Based on this, previously unused potentials are identified, from which a possible need for action can ultimately be derived. Possible causes of those effects at company level, which are particularly attributed to women, are explained in more detail in Chapter 3.2. In order for more women to get into management positions in the future, two things are required: on the one hand, it needs to act as a role model and to act in a way that promotes women; on the other hand, it is needed to have a sufficiently large supply of qualified women who can cover management positions. The former, known as a 'trickle-down' approach, is considered in Chapter 4.1, the latter, a 'bottom-up' approach, is discussed in Chapter 4.2.
