Abstract:

With the support of the Delegation of the European Union in Croatia, CESI implemented the project "Equal opportunities for women and girls with visual impairment" in 2011. The goal of the project was to encourage the empowerment and inclusion of visually impaired women in social processes and to raise public awareness of issues concerning women with disabilities (therefore, an initiative linked to the promotion of women’s social power). In order to sensitize decision-makers to the introduction of a gender perspective in policies for persons with disabilities, a gender analysis of current policies concerning the lives of women with disabilities was conducted, and recommendations for future policies were made. This report sheds light on the specific challenges faced by women with disabilities in Croatia, which may not be adequately addressed in broader discussions of disability or gender equality. It provides an analysis of key policies and documents that shape the lives of women with disabilities in Croatia and identifies areas where these policies could be strengthened to better support this population. By examining the intersection of disability and gender, the study contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the experiences of women with disabilities and highlights the ways in which social power structures can impact this population. It also delivers insights that could be used to develop targeted interventions and policies to support women with disabilities in Croatia, ultimately improving their access to social power and helping to ensure that they are able to fully participate in society.
