Abstract:
This study focuses on gender analyzes of electoral processes and in 2021 elections in Croatia. It treats candidacies and electoral results from the perspective of balanced representation, with the desire to verify whether there are significant differences in women's political participation at the local level in the context of the city -rural and developed-underdeveloped dichotomies. It’s therefore an initiative connected to the promotion of women’s political power and representation in Croatia. The purpose is to determine whether there are significant differences in women's political participation at the local level in the context of the urban-rural dichotomy developed-underdeveloped. The hypothesis was that women's political participation would be greater in urban and developed areas than in rural and less developed areas, as post-election statistics have often indicated. Considering the limited resources for the implementation of this analysis, it was necessary to determine the sample in which the mentioned hypotheses will be tested. The calculation of the development index was taken as a sample, and the first 10 local self-government units were selected from each development group, which were further classified according to administrative and numerical criteria. This monitoring of the sample allows obtaining a complex picture of women's political participation in local elections. Findings show that women's local political participation is more complex than the urban-rural and developed-underdeveloped dichotomies. The criteria were not an adequate predictor of women's political participation, contradicting the hypothesis that women's participation would be higher in urban and developed areas than in rural and less developed ones.
