Abstract:
The project brings together four partner organizations from Europe – Fundacja Laboratorium Zmiany (Poland - project holder), Balmes University Foundation (Spain), Pariter Association for Human Rights and Citizen Participation (Croatia) and Pour la Solidarité (Belgium). It aims to develop a pedagogical tool for working with young people that encourages girls and young people to choose stereotypically “masculine” professions, thus promoting their social representation and social power. It is co-financed by the Erasmus+ program of the EU. When choosing a career, girls often reject “masculinized” professions (in which there are more men than women or are considered "masculine" in the social consciousness). This applies to both vocational and higher education. Girls do not consider these occupations, despite being more sought after in the labor market and associated with better wages, surveys show. This is due to the stereotypes that young women face from an early age. Their beliefs about their own abilities and predispositions (further deepened by the formal education system), as well as women's expectations of combining their careers with traditionally "feminine" responsibilities (managing the home, raising children, caring for parents, etc.) limits girls career choices significantly. The project aims to create a pedagogical tool in the form of a board game that allows girls to explore masculine occupations and try out new skills in a safe environment. It will offer young workers an innovative approach to encourage girls to consider a career in a variety of occupations, regardless of existing stereotypes, and increase their chances in the job market.
