Abstract:
In 2021 during the year of the Italian Presidency the G20 organised a Conference entirely dedicated to the theme of women's empowerment. For this occasion, the Ambrosetti Club launched and coordinated (and still does) a Business Advisory Board, with the support of the former Italian Minister for Equal Opportunities and the Family, Elena Bonetti. The analyses and recommendations made are shared with the Department for Equal Opportunities and the Family, which expresses its intention to devote itself to the formulation of welfare policies in line with the stimuli received. The objectives that The European House - Ambrosetti Working Group sets for itself in its implementation are: analyse the state of the art of female inclusion in the labor market in the Italian context; identify the underlying causes of the low female participation in the labor market in Italy; develop scenarios and economic quantifications related to a greater female participation in the labor market in Italy; develop policy proposals and outline a short-medium term strategy to achieve equity and equal opportunities for women in the Italian labor market. In 2022, in continnuity to their commitment, the European House - Ambrosetti launches a permanent and independent Observatory on Women's Empowerment, with a focus on G20 countries plus Spain (included as a permanent guest of the G20) – in partnership with a group of companies. By analisying more than 50 policies on women's empowerment across all G20 countries and Spain, it were identified several categories of best practices, namely: leadership and political participation; leadership in the corporate world; women in tech and digital. It was also developped an indicator to measure the progress of women's empowerment - Women's Empowerment Progress Index (WEPI) - which measures, monitors and tracks the progress of G20 countries plus Spain in multiple domains of female empowerment with the goal of promoting effective policies.
