  • Abstract:

WOMENTORS (https://www.womentors.gr/) is an innovative program designed to empower young women through comprehensive education, capacity building, and advocacy training. Implemented within the framework of the Active Citizens Fund, the program is led by the Lambrakis Foundation in collaboration with Apostoli Anthropos. Its overarching goal is to foster greater participation and leadership among women, equipping them with the skills and confidence to take control of their lives, careers, and civic engagement. WOMENTORS addresses the critical need for women's empowerment in political, economic, and social spheres, helping participants balance professional growth with personal well-being and family responsibilities. The program focuses on a range of issues, including safeguarding women's rights in the workplace, ensuring equal participation in decision-making processes, and promoting healthy work-life harmonization. With a focus on long-term impact, WOMENTORS seeks to empower 9,000 young women by offering training that covers key areas such as: Awareness of women's rights and the legal frameworks that protect against discrimination; Advocacy skills to champion women's needs and participate in decision-making spaces; Professional development to facilitate equal participation in the labor market and ensure access to career advancement opportunities; Equal pay advocacy to close the gender wage gap and achieve fairness in the workplace; Work-life balance strategies to negotiate household roles and responsibilities on equal terms; Violence prevention, fostering a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of abuse; Health and well-being, with a focus on both mental and physical health. One of the primary objectives of WOMENTORS is to create a network of women who will serve as lifelong advocates for women’s rights, building a community of leaders who actively work toward gender equality. Participants are encouraged to engage in women's empowerment initiatives that advocate for policy change and social transformation. By empowering women to take charge of their personal and professional lives, WOMENTORS aims to break down barriers, challenge gender stereotypes, and promote a future where young women can thrive in all areas of society. This multifaceted approach ensures that WOMENTORS not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters a culture of sustained advocacy for gender equality, helping women enter and succeed in the labor market, take on leadership roles, and make meaningful contributions to society.
