Abstract:
Girl Power Academy Greece is an educational program sponsored by the Athens Comics Library, in collaboration with the Danish organization Girl Power (https://www.girlpowerorg.com/). It is an academy designed to empower new leaders, coaches, giving them the tools and methodology to explore and familiarize themselves with theories and methodological practices on issues of leadership, communication, personal development, inclusive coaching behavior. The main goal is to give opportunities to empower young women and to change the mentality that supports that football is not equal for both sexes. Therefore, it is an initiative related to the promotion of women’s social power, namely, in sports. The program is divided into 3 stages. The first stage is the “Girl Power Coaching Seminar”. It concerns participation in a 3-day seminar to gain coaching experience following the Girl Power methodology. In the second stage, the participants attend an intensive empowerment program with an emphasis on leadership skills, but also on networking. By completing their participation, they should be able to create their own grassroots women’s soccer team. The last stage of the program is the “Girl Power Mentorship Program”. Each participant works with a mentor who supports them to transfer expertise to their own community.
