Abstract:
Women remain significantly underrepresented in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation in Greece. Recent research conducted by Women on Top (WoT) highlights a stark gender funding gap: startups with at least one woman on their founding team attracted only 6% of the total funding in the Greek startup ecosystem, while 62% of women had to self-fund their businesses. To address this disparity and foster female entrepreneurship, FEMpowerment ReGeneration Initiative: The Academy was launched under the guidance and supervision of WoT. This initiative is designed to promote women's economic empowerment and create an inclusive innovation ecosystem that supports young women in becoming successful entrepreneurs. The FEMpowerment Academy offers a comprehensive program aimed at young women professionals, particularly those up to 35 years old, who are taking their first steps in the business world. Through a structured and holistic curriculum, participants are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate the challenges of modern entrepreneurship. The program is composed of two thematic pillars: The Academy: This component offers a series of specialized courses in soft skills (in collaboration with LinkedIn Learning), as well as workshops on entrepreneurship, empowerment, and mentorship designed and curated by Women on Top. These workshops aim to equip participants with practical business skills, boost their confidence, and enhance their leadership potential. The Masterclass Series: Featuring an international roster of top-tier speakers from various industries, the Masterclass Series focuses on sharing knowledge, expertise, and strategies to overcome obstacles in business. However, beyond imparting practical insights, these sessions also serve to inspire and motivate participants by showcasing diverse success stories and role models. Through this dual approach, the FEMpowerment Academy offers a unique combination of technical skills training, mentorship, and inspiration, contributing to the creation of a more inclusive entrepreneurial landscape in Greece. The initiative aims to not only close the gender gap in funding and opportunities but also to empower a new generation of women leaders, helping them to achieve economic independence and thrive in innovation-driven industries.
