Abstract:

This is a country report on gender equality in Greece, published in 2022 as part of the European Network of Legal Experts in Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination program. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the state of gender equality in Greece, analyses the legal and policy framework in place to promote gender equality and identifies both areas of progress and areas for further action. It thus relates to all spheres of power (political, economic, social). The report highlights several areas where Greece has made progress in promoting gender equality, such as the adoption of the Gender Equality Law and the introduction of gender quotas in political parties. The report also notes that Greece has taken steps to address gender-based violence, with the adoption of a national action plan and the establishment of specialized units in the police force. However, it also identifies several challenges and areas for improvement. These include the persistence of gender stereotypes, the gender pay gap, and the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions in the private sector. Furthermore, it highlights the need for more effective implementation and enforcement of existing laws and policies related to gender equality.
