Abstract:
The Hub is an initiative dedicated to fostering women's leadership in Cyprus, providing opportunities for networking, engagement, and professional advancement. Established in 2015 and developed by the AKTI Project and Research Centre with the support of the US Department of State, under the Global Women, Peace and Security Initiative, it aims to promote women’s social power in Cyprus, by being a support mechanism to propel Cypriot women leaders to become active participants in decision-making at all levels: public, private, and civil society sectors. It also aims to create a network of women leaders in Cyprus (women in leadership positions, emerging women leaders, women's organizations and networks, policy makers and influencers). The project seeks to promote women’s social power in Cyprus, by empowering women by building a supportive community of women leaders from different fields and sectors, providing them with opportunities for skill-building, collaboration, and networking. The overarching goal is to empower Cypriot women to become active participants in decision-making at all levels. The specific objectives of the project include providing much-needed opportunities for networking, engagement, and advancement of women on the island, introducing innovation, and tackling gender bias. This was achieved through a gap analysis on second-generation gender bias and women's leadership in Cyprus, conducted by the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS), and the organization and implementation of various training and networking events to bring together Cypriot women leaders.ils about the outcomes of the project.
