Abstract:
One of the first co-operative banks created by women in the world, WCB is a non-profit lending institution focused on supporting women’s entrepreneurial activities, which aims to boost women’s economic power and entrepreneurship by providing specialized programmes and easy access to finance. WCB offers a range of financial products and services to women entrepreneurs, including business loans, savings accounts, and investment products. The bank also provides financial education and training to women to help them develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in business. In addition to its financial services, tWCB also serves as a platform for networking and collaboration among women entrepreneurs in Cyprus. In particular, the bank aims to: enhance the creation and promotion of women-owned businesses, preferably in new fields, by addressing the difficulties in accessing funding; cooperate with the government as well as various Institutions in Cyprus and abroad to absorb funds and services as part of several projects. These sources could be used to provide more flexible loan terms; carry out research on women-related issues to inform policy and product/service development; organize seminars and workshops to support and promote the economic advancement of women-owned businesses (e.g., on preparing business plans). The WCB is owned and governed by its members, who are primarily women entrepreneurs and professionals. The bank is committed to promoting gender equality and to empowering women in Cyprus through its financial and non-financial services.
