Abstract:
Women Candidates is a community initiative of Women Act (a non-profit organization founded in 2017 with the aim of empowering women and promoting gender equality in the public sphere in Greece) financed by the Greek Embassy in the USA. The project is funded by the US Embassy in Greece, and it aims to provide women with the skills and resources necessary to run for public office. The platform aims to increase the participation of women in politics by providing them with the necessary tools and support to run for public office. It thus relates to the domain of political power. Through training programs, mentoring, networking opportunities, and advocacy for policy changes, Women Candidates seeks to address the underrepresentation of women in Greek politics (where women hold only 21.5% of parliamentary seats) and increase women's participation in leadership positions. The training programs provided by Women Candidates focus on developing the skills needed to run a successful political campaign, including public speaking, fundraising, and media relations. Mentoring is also a crucial component of the project, as experienced politicians and experts provide guidance and support to the women candidates. Women Candidates also advocates for policy changes that promote gender equality in politics, such as quotas for women's representation in political parties' candidate lists and electoral systems that encourage the election of more women.
