ROMANIA: Gender assessment
Literature Item
Author Information:
Abstract:
AIM (Intended activity and outcomes): This literature item wants to present a broad picture of the main gender disparities in Romania, defining gender equality in terms of access to opportunities, that is, equality in rights, resources, and voice among women and men. We know that the three powers are connected between them (social, political and economical), but in this case, although a review of the three is made, it focuses more on economical power, making visible the situation of women and the difficulty of access in this area. This Country Gender Assessment reviewed the state of equality between women and men in Romania in endowments, economic opportunities, and voice and agency. It found that Romania has made substantive progress on including gender equality both institutionally and legally into its policy agenda. Certain indicators of gender equality have improved, while others remain stuck, indicating a need for further effort.
