  • Abstract:

Promoted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), under the umbrella of the Bank’s Advice for Small Businesses (ASB) facility, this program aims to support women entrepreneurs in Cyprus, providing them access to finance, business advice, and networking opportunities. The program is designed to address the gender gap in entrepreneurship and to promote women's economic empowerment, helping women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to build skills and grow their businesses, provides them with direct assistance from experienced business advisers and local consultants, and helps them adapt to the demands of a modern economy. It also grants 65-80 per cent of the total net cost of local consulting fees. Women entrepreneurs receive training in key entrepreneurial skills through mentoring, workshops, and networking opportunities. By providing the resources and support to start and grow their businesses, the program helps to increase the number of women-owned businesses in Cyprus, create jobs, and contribute to the country's economic growth. The program also aims to raise awareness about the challenges that women face in entrepreneurship and to promote gender equality in the business world. By doing so, the program can help change attitudes and perceptions about women's capabilities and potential, leading to greater social empowerment and gender equality be solicited to the project promoters. The overarching objective of the EBRD’s small business support programme in Cyprus is to make local SMEs more competitive in a global economy and assist them with the introduction of new products and processes.
