Abstract:
The implementing approach of the EIT Gender Equality Policy is through the introduction of a Gender Equality Plan (GEP), which sets out a roadmap with targeted measures and actions that aim to promote gender equality and strengthened gender mainstreaming with a transversal approach. These commitments aim at eliminating gender inequality and will gradually be broadened to include intersecting socio-economic inequalities, including those based on ethnicity or disability. 28 The GEP approach and requirements derive from the legal basis of Horizon Europe, which establishes gender equality as a cross-cutting priority. The approach is linked to the European Commission’s European Strategy for Gender Equality 2020-2025 and the Council of the European Union in its conclusions29 on the New European Research Area (ERA) in December 2020 also calling on the Commission and Member States to adopt a renewed focus on gender equality and mainstreaming, including through GEPs and the integration of the gender dimension into R&I. A GEP is a set of commitments and actions that aim to promote gender equality in an organisation through institutional and cultural change. To comply with the Horizon Europe GEP eligibility criterion, a GEP must meet four mandatory process-related requirements
