Abstract:
MINT Zukunft Schaffen (STEM Future Initiative) is the largest German STEM-network comprising most initiatives and activities of German companies, designed to win more qualified professionals for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The initiative aims to promote social power of women, namely, by promoting education and career opportunities in STEM fields and to address the shortage of skilled workers in these areas. It was launched in 2008 by a group of leading German businesses and associations (such as Audi, BASF, BMW Group, Deutsche Bank, Siemens, and others, as well as professional associations and organizations like the Association of German Engineers and the German Physical Society), with the support of the German government. The main goal of the initiative is to address the shortage of skilled workers in STEM fields in Germany and to promote greater diversity in these fields, including gender diversity. To achieve its goals, the initiative works with a range of stakeholders (including businesses, government agencies, universities, schools, and community organizations) and offers several programs and services, including: Teacher training and professional development programs to improve STEM education in schools; Career fairs and job boards to connect young people with STEM employers; Mentoring and networking programs to support young people in STEM fields; Outreach programs to promote STEM education and career opportunities to underrepresented groups; Partnerships with businesses and universities to promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing. MINT Zukunft Schaffen is financed by its founding members, partners, and sponsors.
