  • Abstract:

The Empowering Women in Forestry initiative aims to promote gender equality and strengthen the role of women in the traditionally male-dominated forestry sector. By spreading innovative approaches and encouraging multi-actor interactions, the initiative focuses on enhancing women’s skills and supporting their decision-making capabilities within the forestry industry. Key Objectives: Increase the representation of women in forestry roles and leadership positions. Strengthen women’s roles and responsibilities in the forestry sector, emphasizing the critical need for female participation in forestry management and operations. Foster a supportive network for women in forestry, offering them opportunities for professional growth and personal development. Core Activities: Networking: The initiative maintains a network that facilitates professional connections between women working in the forestry sector, fostering a space for mutual support, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. Annual Conferences: Organizes annual conferences featuring keynote speakers and industry experts to discuss challenges and opportunities for women in forestry. These events serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and inspiration. Workshops: Offers workshops on a wide range of topics, from personal defense and coaching to personal development and stress management, designed to enhance both the personal and professional skills of women in the forestry sector. Data Collection and Analysis: Gathers and analyzes data on the number of women working in forestry, including in State Forests, which is the only institution of its kind in the country. This data informs efforts to increase gender diversity in the industry and guides future policies. International Collaboration: The initiative collaborates with women's forestry organizations from other countries and international forestry bodies. It actively promotes Polish forestry and the contributions of Polish women foresters on a global stage. Study Visits and International Exchanges: Organizes study visits and exchanges for Polish women in forestry to meet with their counterparts in other countries, with past visits to Norway, Iceland, and Austria. These visits provide opportunities for professional development and foster international relationships. Through these activities, the Empowering Women in Forestry initiative not only supports women already working in the sector but also encourages more women to pursue careers in forestry. By enhancing their skills, increasing visibility, and providing platforms for collaboration and learning, the initiative plays a pivotal role in promoting gender equality in forestry and ensuring that women are well-represented in decision-making roles within the sector.
