Abstract:
This study investigates the topic of gender equality in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), both in companies and more broadly within societyClosing the gender gap in Central and Eastern Europe. Empowering women in the workplace could unlock significant economic growth. In this study, the analysis focuses on the women’s empowerment and the economic activity of the approximately 67 million women in seven countries in CEE: Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine. Women account for 52 percent of the overall population of these nations and more than 60 percent of all of university graduates. Yet, they make up just 45 percent of the labor force and even less in management positions.The report examines the potential benefits of greater gender equality for businesses and society and actions to be taken to accelerate women's empowerment in business.
