Abstract:
The Visegrad Women’s Initiative, spearheaded by the Hungarian Women's Career Development Association (AWCDH), is an initiative focused on promoting women’s employment while supporting a work-life balance that meets the needs of family life. The initiative seeks to foster dialogue and collaboration between key stakeholders, including the legislature, government, corporate and non-profit sectors, higher education, and international experts. It operates at both the cross-border and EU levels, working closely with NGOs and organizations from the Visegrad Group (V4) countries—Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Key Objectives: Promote women’s employment and professional development while ensuring family life balance. Facilitate multi-sectoral dialogue between government entities, businesses, NGOs, and academic institutions to address gender equality in employment. Provide data-driven insights and well-researched analyses on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women, particularly concerning the labor market in V4 countries. Share good practices and expert knowledge to create a well-founded basis for policy development and decision-making at national and international levels. Activities: The initiative conducts research and analyses on the evolving challenges women face in the labor market, especially in light of the pandemic’s impact. By working with credible experts, gathering data, and sharing findings with decision-makers, the initiative aims to influence policies that can promote gender equality in the workplace. It also highlights successful practices from V4 countries, offering a blueprint for other regions facing similar challenges. The findings and recommendations help decision-makers and stakeholders to better understand the unique needs of women in the workforce and implement policies that support women’s employment and career advancement, all while accommodating the demands of family life. Through its efforts, the Visegrad Women’s Initiative aims to create a more inclusive labor market and foster sustainable changes that empower women to thrive in both their professional and personal lives. This cross-border collaboration serves as a model for other regions and supports the broader mission of achieving gender equality and balanced workforce participation across Europe.
